House Services Manager

Steinway & Sons is currently seeking a House Services Manager for our flagship store, Steinway Hall.

The House Services Manager (HSM) will support the large number of various events and activities at Steinway Hall. The activities range from recitals, artist performances, master classes etc., to VIP catered events and hosting meetings for high profile groups.

The HSM will work with people from various divisions within Steinway & Sons (ie. Retail, Concert & Artists, Institutional Sales), with the primary responsibility of managing events and following the standard operating policies and procedures. Furthermore, the HSM will be the point person between vendors and relevant parties to ensure all are informed of the events and activities, and that appropriate preparations are in place.  Activities take place both during normal business hours as well as evenings and weekends, and it is expected of the HSM to be flexible in their working schedule with focus on supporting the various events.

The position is 40 hours per week, generally scheduled as Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, with evening and/or weekend hours as required. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Steinway Hall Events Calendar and update with all production details
  • Collaborate with colleagues and outside clients and vendors on the production needs of each event to ensure all advance logistics and schedules are complete.
  • Manage request forms for use of Steinway Hall
  • Attend bi-weekly production meetings to discuss upcoming and past events, and to address event needs
  • Process Steinway Hall Use Agreements and insurance documents
  • Create and process invoices related to audio and video recording
  • Perform pre-event walk through with clients and act as point person from booking to post production
  • Provide Audio/Visual support, adjust lighting and microphone placements, pre-set and run audio and video recording systems, operate the film screen and sound system
  • Maintain and distribute weekly maintenance, security, and tuning schedules. Create and share production schedules and guest lists for all events at Steinway Hall
  • Create and share invitations for private events
  • Act as production manager for events at the hall, work with retail staff and caterer to assign roles and communicate the run of show 
  • Set up and break down equipment for special events, including moving pianos, chairs, tables, and coat check as needed
  • Coordinate front of house flow: greeting guests, directing seating in the recital hall, coordinating late seating between pieces
  • Address problems and requests from outside presenters quickly and efficiently
  • Uphold all safety, fire, building regulations and codes

Qualifications, education and experience:

  • College degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum 3 year experience as on-site event staff for special events, meetings and/or conferences
  • Experience setting up and  managing vendors, logistics and operations for events and productions
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a busy environment
  • Facilitates great customer service and ensures guests consistently have an exceptional experience
  • Strong coordination and follow up skills
  • Remains calm under pressure with ability to trouble shoot and solve problems
  • A self-starter with a hands on, proactive  approach
  • Strong technical IT skills and A/V knowledge
  • Able to lift and  move up to 30 lbs

Sales Manager - Pittsburgh

Steinway & Sons is currently seeking an experienced Sales and Business Development Manager with a passion for luxury and a love of the arts for its company-owned showroom in Pittsburgh.

The primary focus of the Sales Manager is to build and develop the Pittsburgh market through a pro-active approach to local marketing and networking as well as managing personal and store sales. 

The right candidate has a proven track record in successfully generating sales and business development,  demonstrated excellent skills in administration, operations and management within luxury retail or project type sales.  The candidate must have an outgoing and engaging personality and be a natural leader, who can engage with clients on many different levels. While the ability to play piano is not a requirement for the job, musical and tonal understanding is highly beneficial as our clients often seek guidance and recommendations during instrument selections.  Experience with business development and lead generating activities are required to ensure a continued pro-active approach to sales.

  • Analyze and implement programs to drive performance
  • Engage in and oversee business development
  • Develop and cultivate customer leads and relationships
  • Oversee and manage sales leads within the market
  • Manage the day to day prospect follow up

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and experience in customer service or sales within the music business (piano preferred)

Retail Sales Representative

Steinway & Sons is currently seeking an experienced Retail Sales Representative, with a passion for luxury and a love of the arts, for our Paramus, New Jersey based showroom.

The right candidate has a proven track record in a proactive approach to sales, with past experience in business development, lead generating activities and generating sales prospects.  The candidate must have an outgoing and engaging personality who can engage and build relationships with clients on many different levels.  While the ability to play piano is not a requirement for the job, musical and tonal understanding is highly beneficial as our clients often seek guidance and recommendations during instrument selections.  In addition to focusing on showroom sales, a large part of this job will involve outreach and business development.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Achieve personal sales goals and support store in achieving goals
  • Develop sales strategy and forecasts for customer/client base
  • Develop and cultivate customer leads and relationships
  • Implement a sales referral outreach program for key influencers (i.e. piano technicians, real estate agents, designers, piano teachers…)
  • Coordinate all piano technical needs after sale follow up (tuning, etc.) and in store as needed
  • Use the CRM system to manage and follow up with leads
  • Support all in store and regional promotional events (generating and cultivating sales)
  • Resolve customer issues in a timely manner

Concert Technician - Astoria, NY

Steinway & Sons is seeking an experienced Concert Technician for our office located in Astoria, NY.  The Concert Technician is responsible for providing piano technician and selection services for Artists and venues to support external events and concerts.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain concert instruments
  • Test the tone and action of concert & artist pianos to assure Steinway standards are met
  • Direct the required adjustments and corrections prior to putting piano into service
  • Assist in selection process of pianos to be used by various artists and answer their technical questions
  • Adjust piano to specific demands of performer within Steinway tolerances
  • Meet the expectations of artists and customers through the regulations and/or voicing of individual instruments according to Steinway performance standards
  • Provide concert-ready maintenance and tuning of Steinway concert pianos in tristate areas venues
  • Attend and remain on location for certain events, recordings, etc. which may be requested by the artist or venue                      

Qualifications, education and experience:

  • High school diploma
  • 2 years formal training school for piano technology or related certifications
  • 5+ years of piano technician experience
  • Experience supporting festivals preferred
  • Must be able to do solid concert tunings, have experience in voicing Steinway hammers and regulating skills
  • All candidates must participate in technical evaluation

Industrial Plumber - Astoria, NY

Steinway & Sons is seeking an experienced Industrial Plumber for our manufacturing facility located in Astoria, NY.  This role is responsible for but not limited to maintaining steam and water pipes.  In addition this role is responsible for maintaining and making necessary repairs to the boiler and fire sprinkler system according to specifications or plumbing codes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyze plumbing problems and determine repairs needed
  • Performs routine maintenance of steam and water pipes; cuts and threads pipes as required
  • Installs, maintains and repairs as necessary the following equipment: water coolers, air conditioners, pumps, air lines and filters
  • Maintains and repairs sprinkler system as required
  • Perform all daily maintenance functions and 5S requirements (i.e. clean and sweep area)
  • Train staff as required
  • Enter data in T&A system, and close out work orders
  • Perform other functions in the Maintenance Department as needed

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Must have experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting
  • Must possess a High School diploma or trade school certificate
  • 5-10 years experience required
  • Ability to use simple math and measuring instruments in various calculations as required for routine plumbing
  • Ability to occasionally lift heavy equipment and parts
  • Requires a high degree of mental/visual effort

Foreman, Maintenance

Steinway & Sons is seeking an experienced Foreman for our manufacturing facility located in Astoria, NY.  This role is responsible for but not limited to maintaining production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment as well as supervising staff.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and oversees the industrial repair of production equipment and maintenance work assignments performed by internal company maintenance technicians or contractors
  • Assesses equipment, materials and labor required to complete a wide range of machine repairs and maintenance tasks to insure that jobs are complete to high standards
  • Proactively seeks out waste of resources and initiates actions to improve methods and reduce costs
  • Assists in the selection of new hires as well as on going coaching, development, and disciplining of current union maintenance staff.  Involved in day-to-day supervising and work assignment to insure work force productivity
  • Ensures that maintenance employees gain and maintain a thorough understanding of safety regulations and provide guidance on departmental and company policies and procedures
  • Has good working knowledge of standard OSHA regulations and practices (e.g. Lock Out/Tag Out, Haz Comm)
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files related to facilities inspections and compliance reporting in order to comply with regulatory requirements
  • Insures that the Maintenance Department tools, parts & equipment, and vehicles are well maintained and are able to meet intended objectives
  • Maintains production and facilities on-hand spare parts inventory
  • Obtains and reviews price quotes for the procurement of parts, services, and labor for various maintenance and facilities projects
  • Has broad experience and familiarity with building HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic/pneumatic and fire safety systems
  • Ensure routine preventive maintenance on equipment is done

Qualifications, education and experience:

  • At least 5 year’s supervisory experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting
  • Able to analyze, plan and solve problems
  • Able to read prints and drawings and have solid math and mechanical aptitude
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and execute sound independent judgment
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse groups

CAD Designer/Drafter

Steinway & Sons is seeking an experienced CAD Designer/Drafter for our office located in Astoria, NY.  This position supports the product design and development activities in our engineering department and is largely involved with creating and maintaining the 3D computer models of the various instruments in the Steinway product offering.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create 3D models of piano parts and assemblies as well as tools and fixtures related to the making of these parts
  • Manage the CAD revision process as changes are made to the design and/or manufacturing process
  • Generate shop floor working drawings as well as document and assist in specifying process operations
  • Aid in the reconciliation process when computer models do not agree with actual part or assembly

Qualifications, education and experience:

  • Associate’s degree in computer-aided design/drafting
  • A strong mechanical background with woodworking, engineering and metalworking process
  • Working knowledge of both Siemens NX (Unigraphics), Solidworks, AutoCAD and current versions NX6 and TC2007
  • Minimum three years work experience in a Unigraphics or similar 3D CAD environment
